Nine-Minute 'Star Trek Into Darkness' Preview Will Play Before 'The Hobbit' on Select IMAX Screens
For a movie that hits theaters in six months, we've seen very little from Star Trek Into Darkness. No official poster. No teaser trailer and definitely not an actual trailer. In fact, we didn't even know until September what the sequel to 2009's Star Trek was going to be called. When The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey hits theaters on Dec. 14, 2012, we're going to learn a lot more about Star Trek Into Darkness.
Paramount announced on Wednesday that a nine-minute extended preview of J.J. Abrams' upcoming film would play before The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey in 500 IMAX 3D theaters. Minus the 3D part, this is pretty similar to what Warner Bros. did with The Dark Knight Rises last December. Lucky fans at select IMAX screenings of Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol got to see the opening to The Dark Knight Rises. That move was a win for both promoted Christopher Nolan's final Batman film and drawing fans into IMAX theaters for the latest Mission: Impossible. I wasn't planning on seeing The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey at an IMAX theater, but I might have to reconsider now.
