Judy Greer to Don the Motion-Capture Suit in 'Dawn of the Planet of the Apes'
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes has already put together a pretty impressive cast, with Gary Oldman, Jason Clarke and Keri Russell on board. Oh, and let's not forget that Andy Serkis, the star of Rise of the Planet of the Apes, is back too as Caesar, the leader of the insurgent apes. While Oldman, Clarke and Russell are all playing humans, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes added a new ape on Thursday, with Judy Greer revealing to Vulture that she would play Cornelia in the upcoming sequel.
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes hits theaters on May 23, 2014.
"For so long I haven't been able to say anything about it, so this is exciting!" Greer gushed when I talked to her last night. Cornelia was briefly introduced in the first film (where she was played by dancer Devyn Dalton) as a potential love interest to Andy Serkis's lead ape Caesar, but the role will be expanded in the Matt Reeves–directed sequel. You probably recognize Greer from shows like Arrested Development and movies like The Descendants, but you may not know that she voices the hilarious Cheryl on Archer. Greer will play Cornelia through motion-capture, so it looks like her voicework experience from Archer will come in handy. Keeping with Rise of the Planet of the Apes' knack for paying homage to the original Planet of the Apes, Greer's character, Cornelia, is named after the original film's Cornelius.
