Johnny Depp in Talks for Another 'Alice in Wonderland' Paycheck

You'd think that after Dark Shadows and The Lone Ranger flopped, Johnny Depp would've figured out that the next stage of his career should involve a lot less crazy makeup and a lot more real acting. Despite having roles in Wally Pfister's Transcendence and the cinematic adaption of Into the Woods, Depp unfortunately just can't resist coming back for another sweet, sweet crazy makeup paycheck. On Friday, Deadline reported that the actor was finalizing a deal to return for the sequel to Alice and Wonderland.

Look, I can understand why Depp is back for more Alice and Wonderland. Tim Burton's adaption made over $1 billion worldwide, and Depp needs to prove that he still has some box office magic left. While Burton isn't directing the sequel (The Muppets director James Bobin will helm this one), this still isn't the kind of project Depp needs to be working on. He needs to start working with serious directors like Christopher Nolan or David O. Russell and make films that don't rely on gimmicks like makeup or funny voices. Let's retire that schtick to the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, OK?
