REPORT: Ryan Gosling and Zac Efron Are Being Considered for 'Star Wars: Episode VII' Roles

For a movie that hits theaters in roughly two years, we don't have a lot of information about Star Wars: Episode VII. Of course, that's probably how Disney and director JJ Abrams want to keep things, but that doesn't mean sites aren't going to attempt to be the first to break some big news regarding the upcoming sequel.

On Thursday, Latino-Review reported that Disney was looking at Ryan Gosling and Zac Efron for roles in Episode VII, with the site reporting that Gosling "went in for Skywalker’s son. Yes, that’s right Luke's kid" and Efron's role being a mystery.

OK, I'm on record when it comes to questioning the veracity of Latino-Review's rumor reports. The site's record as of recently has been pretty poor, but since they have landed a whopper of a scoop a few times in the past, I can't ignore them. That said, Gosling in a Star Wars movie would be a surprise. As an actor, Gosling has built a career on small, edgy movies — The Place Beyond the Pines, Drive, Only God Forgives. He's also talked about taking a break from acting. Taking a role in Star Wars: Episode VII — Luke Skywalker's son, no less — would be the exact opposite of that.

As Latino-Review mentions, Disney appears to have saved any Star Wars news for its own D23 Expo, keeping the franchise out of Comic-Con this year. I've heard rumblings that we could get anything from a confirmation that Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher are returning to Episode VII's title to even news of fresh casting. The D23 Expo is Aug. 9 to 11. We'll have to wait until then to find out if Gosling or Efron will be joining the galaxy far, far away.
