Tom Hanks and Ron Howard to Return for 'Inferno,' Another Movie in Dan Brown's 'Da Vinci Code' Series
Tom Hanks isn't done solving mysteries as Robert Langdon. After playing the sleuth in The Da Vinci Code and Angels and Demons, it was uncertain if Hanks would return for another adaption of a Dan Brown book. On Tuesday, Deadline broke the news that Sony would next turn Inferno into a movie, skipping The Lost Symbol, which was the true sequel to The Da Vinci Code, with Hanks and director Ron Howard both returning.
Sony holding onto The Lost Symbol shouldn't be a big deal, as the book Angels and Demons actually took place before The Da Vinci Code, but the studio adapted it as a sequel. I'm curious how much of a market there still is for the Langdon movies. The Da Vinci code opened to $77.07 million on the way to a domestic gross of $217.54 million, but Angels and Demons was only able to open at $46.2 million and gross a total of $133.38 million domestically. Are people going to flock to Inferno?
Inferno joins a crowed 2015, with Sony slotting the movie for Dec. 18.
