World War I! League of Nations! Leonardo DiCaprio to Produce and Star in Woodrow Wilson Biopic

Every actor needs a superhero franchise these days. Robert Downey Jr. has Iron Man. Brad Pitt is trying to build one with World War Z. Ben Affleck will soon be Batman. And now Leonardo DiCaprio has ... President Woodrow Wilson?

According to The Hollywood Reporter, DiCaprio will produce and star in the cinematic adaption of Wilson, a new biography by A. Scott Berg about America's 28th president.
Berg's Wilson offers several well-narrated dramatic moments that could serve as the basis for a film: Wilson's 1919 barnstorming tour of America to build support for the League of Nations that led to his stroke might be the most obvious. Other contenders include his romancing of Edith Galt and their 1915 White House wedding (Wilson's first wife died in 1914, one year into his term. He's the last president to marry in the White House), the 1912 campaign and the decision to enter the war in 1917.
I wonder what this means for the Rasputin project DiCaprio had been circling. Personally, I'd much rather see him tackle the Russian mystic over Wilson. Not for political reasons, though — I just can't bear the idea of DiCaprio possibly donning old-person makeup again for a movie. If you saw J. Edgar, you know how that one turned out.

DiCaprio will next be seen in director Martin Scorsese's The Wolf of Wall Street, a film that's already garnering serious Oscar buzz.
