Those Jerks at the Golden Globes Declare Scarlett Johansson Ineligible for 'Her'
Even though the Hollywood Foreign Press Association uses Golden Globes nominations to get big stars to attend that awards show, the HFPA crossed one star off their list on Tuesday, with Variety reporting that Scarlett Johansson would not be eligible for her supporting role in Her.
In director Spike Jonze's upcoming film, Johansson voices the AI behind Joaquin Phoenix's character's personal computing interface. Picture Microsoft Word's Clippy, but only voiced by Johansson and with a personality that could cause a man to fall in love with it. (I supposed people could fall in love with Clippy, but that's a part of the Internet I don't wish to wade into.)
Johansson has been garnering Oscar buzz for this role, which is impressive since she's never actually on screen. The HFPA declaring the actress ineligible for a Golden Globe award is a divisive move. According to Variety, Johansson is still eligible for an Academy Award and a SAG Award.
Her opens on Dec. 18.
