Your Day in Pop Culture (Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2013)

This Day in Pop Culture History
1989: The first episode of The Simpsons airs. Thousands of years into the future when The Simpsons is still on TV, archeologists will try to pinpoint this date.

Famous People Have Birthdays Too
1946: Eugene Levy, actor (American Pie series)
1953: Bill Pullman, actor (Independence Day, Spaceballs, 1600 Penn)
1973: Rian Johnson, director (Looper, Brick)
1974: Sarah Paulson, actress (American Horror Story, Martha Marcy May Marlene, Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip)
1974: Giovanni Ribisi, actor (Avatar, Ted, Gangster Squad)
1975: Milla Jovovich, actress (Resident Evil series)

Who's on What Tonight: Your Guide to Late-Night TV
CONAN: Saving Mr. Banks' Tom Hanks, music group The Head and the Heart
LETTERMAN: Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues' Paul Rudd, How I Met Your Mother's Cristin Milioti
KIMMEL: Lone Survivor's Mark Wahlberg, Nebraska's Bruce Dern, music group Politica
LENO: Her's Olivia Wilde, animal expert Julie Scardina, singer Johnny Mathis
FALLON: REPEAT
FERGUSON: Mistresses' Alyssa Milano, diabettus spokesman Wilford Brimley

New on Blu-Ray
Prisoners: Hugh Jackman as a desperate father looking for his missing daughter is more terrifying than Jackman as Wolverine.
Elysium: Neill Blomkamp's second film wasn't as great as District 9, but Elysium was still a great scifi film.
The Lone Ranger: The Lone Ranger isn't as awful as everyone says it was. The movie has a few cool scenes but gets dragged down by some serious tone issues.
Kick-Ass 2: We probably won't get a third Kick-Ass movie, partially because Kick-Ass 2 flopped at the box office and partially because Aaron Taylor-Johnson is going to be pretty busy with Godzilla and The Avengers sequel.
The Family: Dianna Argon beats the crap out of someone with a tennis racket. If that's your kind of thing, The Family is your kind of movie.
Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters: Logan Lerman should be a serious actor. Hopefully his contract for this series is up.
