Fred Armisen Will Lead the 'Late Night with Seth Meyers' House Band

Following The Roots as a house band is no easy task, but the people working on Late Night with Seth Meyers are doing their best to find someone who might be able to bring the same kind of buzz as Questlove and crew. On Monday, Seth Meyers revealed on Twitter that his former Saturday Night Live castmate Fred Armisen would lead the new Late Night house band.

"Fred will curate and lead the band, and continue to run it even when he's off shooting Portlandia," Meyers tweeted.

It sounds like Armisen will have a deal similar to what Max Weinberg had when Conan O'Brien was hosting Late Night. Weinberg lead O'Brien's house band but would often take leaves of absence to play with Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band.

We've yet to hear about an announcer/sidekick personality for Meyers' Late Night. I would have to guess at this point that Armisen will fill that role, much like Paul Shaffer does for David Letterman. Can we expect Meyers and Armisen to carry on some of their old "Weekend Update" shenanigans?
