Disney Announces 'The Incredibles' and 'Cars' Sequels, Going Against Pixar's Plans to Focus on Original Films
Good news/bad news time: On Tuesday, Walt Disney CEO Bob Iger announced that Pixar was working on sequel to both The Incredibles and Cars. Pixar fans have long hoped for a sequel to The Incredibles, so there's your good news. The Cars movies are considered the worst two Pixar movies, so there's your bad news. Disney makes a ton of money off Cars merchandise, so it's not a surprise the studio wants to keep cashing in on that property.

Disney Chairman and CEO Robert A. Iger announced the latest and greatest Disney projects in front of shareholders and D23 Members at the Company’s Annual Meeting in Portland, Oregon on March 18, 2014. Bob Iger announced that Pixar Animation Studios is working on a new Cars film. And another film starring The Incredibles.
Pixar has scheduled unnamed projects for June 16, 2017, Nov. 22, 2017, and June 15, 2018. I'm guessing two of those slots will go to The Incredibles 2 and Cars 3. Hopefully director Brad Bird will be back for The Incredibles 2.
This announcement does seem to go against Pixar President Ed Catmull's previous statement that the studio would be cutting back on the number of sequels it produces ...
