BOX OFFICE REPORT (JUNE 6-8): 'Fault in Our Stars' Trumps 'Edge of Tomorrow'
1. The Fault in Our Stars (N)
Weekend gross: $48.2 million / Total domestic gross: $48.2 million /
Percent drop: NA
If you thought The Fault in Our Stars would almost match the opening weekend gross of Divergent in the battle of Shailene Woodley movies, raise your hand. Yeah, The Fault in Our Stars debuted with $48.2 million at the domestic box office, trailing Divergent's opening weekend of $54.6 million. The Fault in Our Stars obviously isn't a franchise like Divergent, but Woodley will surely be in even bigger demand now. If only her role in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 had worked out.
2. Maleficent (1st)
Weekend gross: $33.5 million / Total domestic gross: $127.4 million /
Percent drop: 51.7
After just two weekends, Maleficent is already is already the fourth highest grossing live-action movie of Angelina Jolie's career. With $127.4 million over two weekends, Maleficent has a real shot at topping Mr. and Mrs. Smith's $186.3 million lifetime gross.

3. Edge of Tomorrow (N)
Weekend gross: $29.1 million / Total domestic gross: $29.1 million /
Percent drop: NA
For a critically acclaimed film, it's a shame Edge of Tomorrow didn't open with bigger numbers. The film has been getting rave reviews, but Edge of Tomorrow's $29.1 million barely cracks the top ten opening weekends for Tom Cruise. Even last year's Oblivion debuted with $37.1 million. Cruise is still a movie star, possibly one of the best box office guarantees, but the actor isn't living in the days when he was able to pull in $64.9 million for a science-fiction optic like War of the Worlds.

4. X-Men: Days of Future Past (2nd)
Percent drop: 54.8
While X-Men: Days of Future Past probably won't become the all-time highest grossing X-Men film domestically, the latest installment in the franchise is already No. 3 among those movies. Days of Future Past's $189.1 million has a shot at passing X2: X-Men United's $214.9 million, but X-Men: The Last Stand's $234.4 million is out of reach.
5. A Million Ways to Die in the West (3rd)
Weekend gross: $7.2 million / Total domestic gross: $30.1 million /
Percent drop: 57.2
Percent drop: 57.2
A Million Ways to Die in the West is not Ted. That should be clear by now. While Ted had grossed $119.8 million through its first two weekends, A Million Ways to Die in the West has struggled to pull in $30 million. Ted did $54.4 million its first weekend alone.
Next week's predictions
1. How to Train Your Dragon 2
2. 22 Jump Street
3. The Fault in Our Stars
4. Maleficent
5. Edge of Tomorrow
