'Bring It On' Director Peyton Reed Will Helm Marvel's 'Ant-Man'; Adam McKay Will Contribute to Script

Marvel announced on Saturday that Peyton Reed will direct Ant-Man, ending weeks of speculation over who would replace Edgar Wright at the helm of the studio's first post-Avengers: Age of Ultron offering. The studio also revealed that Adam McKay, who was previously in negotiations himself to replace Wright, will contribute to Ant-Man's script.

When Marvel's "Ant-Man" hits theaters July 17, 2015, director Peyton Reed will help shepherd the hero into the Marvel Cinematic Universe with a cast led by Paul Rudd and Michael Douglas, with writer Adam McKay contributing to the film's script.

Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, con-man Scott Lang (Rudd) must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym (Douglas), protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world.

Conveniently, Marvel left the fact that Reed's biggest directorial claim to fame out of that press release, failing to mention that he was man who brought us the cheerleading epic Bring It On. Reed also directed The Break-Up and Yes Man.

It would be very easier to knock Marvel's choice of Reed based on his resumé, but Marvel proved with Anthony and Joe Russo, who directed You, Me and Dupree, that fluff comedy directors can surprise when it comes to superhero movies.
