Legendary Pictures Wants Joe Cornish to Direct 'King Kong' Prequel 'Skull Island'
During Comic-Con this past weekend, Legendary Pictures made the surprise announcement of Skull Island, a prequel movie of sorts to King Kong. Besides announcing the film and that it'll be released on Nov. 4, 2016, the studio didn't have any other details. No director, cast or plot.
Deadline now reports that Legendary has their man in mind to helm Skull Island: Attack the Block director Joe Cornish. Cornish has been in high demand lately, with his name being tossed around to follow JJ Abrams as the director of the rebooted Star Trek franchise. Cornish didn't wind up with that job, but he is directing Section Six for Universal Pictures. No word yet whether or not Cornish will accept Legendary's offer.
According to Deadline, the studio also has Godzilla screenwriter Max Borenstein working on the Skull Island script.
