Marvel Ready to Move Forward With 'Inhumans' Movie
Now that Marvel Studios has turned Guardians of the Galaxy into a box office record-setter, the studio knows that it can pretty much do whatever it wants at this point. Collider reported on Tuesday that Marvel is now moving forward with Inhumans.
For those of you not familiar with this corner of the Marvel universe, the Inhumans are a race created after alien experimentation that lives on the dark side of the moon. Marvel has recently elevated the Inhumans to a higher level of prominence in the comics, with many suspecting that the goal is to replace X-Men mutants with Inhumans, making it possible to bring mutant-like superheroes into the Marvel Cinematic Universe without infringing upon Fox's rights to mutants. Many think that Avengers: Age of Ultron will eventually reveal that Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch are Inhumans instead of mutants as they traditionally are.
With Guardians of the Galaxy opening up the cosmic side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and proving that moviegoing audiences will eat up whatever comes with the Marvel Cinematic Universe label, Black Bolt and the Inhumans make a ton of sense now. According to Collider, Marvel Studios is pleased with an Inhumans script by Joe Robert Cole and is ready to start shopping the film to directors.
This is the second time within a week that we're hearing rumors surrounding an Inhumans movie. Vin Diesel teased a new role within the Marvel Cinematic Universe on Saturday when he wrote on Facebook: "Vin and Marvel... you all made it happen! I get the strange feeling that Marvel thinks I'm Inhuman ... Haha." Sure, Diesel is already voicing Groot in Guardians of the Galaxy, but that shouldn't stop him from playing Black Bolt, the leader of the Inhumans who never speaks.
No word yet on when an Inhumans movie would hit theaters, but Marvel Studios did recently announce a ton of dates for future movies. Would Inhumans work best during the Phase Three lead up to Thanos and The Avengers 3? Or does Marvel save the Inhumans until we reach Phase Four and begin a new storytelling journey?
