BOX OFFICE REPORT (SEPT. 12-14): 'Guardians of the Galaxy' Falls to 'No Good Deed,' But Passes $300M

1. No Good Deed (N)
Weekend gross: $24.5 million / Total domestic gross: $24.5 million /
Percent drop: NA
No Good Deed joins Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles as the only two movies capable of dethroning Guardians of the Galaxy from the top spot at the box office. Thanks to No Good Deed, Idris Elba has a box office champion to his name — at least one that didn't have "Thor" in the title.

2. Dolphin Tale 2 (N)
Weekend gross: $16.6 million / Total domestic gross: $16.6 million /
Percent drop: NA
Was anyone clamoring for a sequel to Dolphin Tale? I'm not even sure how one makes a sequel of that movie. Did the main dolphin and Morgan Freeman team up to defeat Bane? I dunno. Anyways, while the original Dolphin Tale opened with $19.2 million, it fell a few million short of that number.

3. Guardians of the Galaxy (1st)
Weekend gross: $8 million / Total domestic gross: $305.9 million /
Percent drop: 22.4
Guardians of the Galaxy continued its amazing year this past weekend, adding $8 million to become the first film to cross $300 million at the domestic box office during 2014. The film inched closer to passing Iron Man 2 ($312.4 million) and Iron Man ($318.4 million) on the Marvel Cinematic Universe list. Guardians of the Galaxy will become only the third film in the megafranchise to accomplish that feat.

4. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2nd)
Weekend gross: $5.4 million / Total domestic gross: $181 million /
Percent drop: 26.2
Remember when Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was making more money than Guardians of the Galaxy? Yeah, I don't think Marvel Studios minds that they lost a weekend or two in the long run.

5. Let's Be Cops (4th)
Weekend gross: $4.3 million / Total domestic gross: $73 million /
Percent drop: 22.8
Let's Be Cops lives on, finishing in the top five for the fifth weekend in a row.

Next week's predictions
1. The Maze Runner
2. This Is Where I Leave You
3. No Good Deed
4. A Walk Among the Tombstones
5. Dolphin Tale 2
