Sony Pictures Starts Working on '23 Jump Street'

Despite mocking the idea of further sequels at the end of 22 Jump Street, the process of making 23 Jump Street a reality has begun. Sony Pictures has hired Rodney Rothman to write the script for the sequel, turning to one of the scribes behind 22 Jump Street, according to Deadline.

Deadline also reports that while 21 Jump Street and 22 Jump Street directors Chris Miller and Phil Lord are on board to produce the next movie in the franchise, they've yet to decide if they'll also helm the picture.

It's no surprise that Sony wants to keep this franchise alive. 22 Jump Street grossed $190.8 million domestically, improving on 21 Jump Street's $138.4 million lifetime domestic haul. Lord, Miller, Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill are all still stars on the rise — with the trouble's Sony is having with its Spider-Man franchise, it needs to keep this hit going.
