RUMOR: Marvel Eyeing Ewan McGregor for 'Doctor Strange'

With Joaquin Phoenix out, will Ewan McGregor assume the role of Doctor Strange? The Star Wars actor's name is now floating around for the role, with Badass Digest reporting that Marvel Studios was "looking at" McGregor to carry Doctor Strange.

"McGregor had been prepping for the role — doing the usual research actors do when looking at taking on an adaptation or existing character," Badass Digest's Devin Faraci wrote on Tuesday. "I contacted one of my usual sources and asked if this was true, and I was told 'They're looking at him.'"

Since talks between Marvel and Phoenix fell apart, we haven't really been able to lock onto one name for the Doctor Strange role. Jake Gyllenhaal? Oscar Isaac? Jared Leto? Ethan Hawke? Keanu Reeves? I have a theory that after Phoenix bailed on the role, Marvel found itself consumed with its negotiations to bring Robert Downey Jr. in for Captain America 3 and hasn't been able to devote the necessary attention to finding a Doctor Strange.

McGregor would be great in this role. I keep envisioning how well his calm Obi-Wan Kenobi demeanor would translate to Doctor Strange. Marvel needs to come up big with Doctor Strange, and McGregor has the right balance of franchise fame and indie cred for the role.

Hopefully McGregor and Disney will find themselves talking about working together a lot in the upcoming months ...
