Disney Sets Dates for Animated Flicks ZOOTOPIA and MOANA
Big Hero 6 did its job this past weekend, continuing the Second Disney Animation Renaissance both critically and at the box office. The studio set official dates on Monday for the two movies that will follow Big Hero 6: Zootopia will open on March 4, 2016, and Moana will open on Nov. 23, 2016.
Zootopia will be directed by Byron Howard, who previously helmed Tangled and Bolt for Disney. According to a 2013 Entertainment Weekly article, the movie "is a buddy movie about a smooth fox named Nick Wilde who is accused of a crime and a rabbit cop named Lt. Judy Hops who teams with him to find out the truth" set in "a modern world designed by animals."
Moana will be helmed by The Princess and the Frog directors Ron Clements and John Musker. The movie will focus on "a bold teenage girl as she travels through the ancient South Pacific world of Oceania."
Walt Disney Animation will 2015 off, which is surprising considering how much of a roll the studio has been on lately.
