STEVE JOBS Movie Is Dead at Sony, Universal Expected to Pick Up Film
In shocking news, Sony's Steve Jobs movie is dead. The Hollywood Reporter broke the news on Wednesday night, reporting that the studio had put the film into turnaround. According to Deadline, Universal Pictures is swooping in to pick up Steve Jobs, with a deal expected to be in place by Thursday.
The movie, based on Walter Isaacson's biography of Steve Jobs, seemed like a high-caliber project for Sony. The studio had reunited its The Social Network producer, Scott Rudin, and screenwriter, Aaron Sorkin, for the movie. Oscar-winning director Danny Boyle was on board to helm Steve Jobs. The film had experienced casting troubles, with Christian Bale abruptly pulling out of the movie a few weeks ago. We last heard that Michael Fassbender was in talks to play Jobs.
THR reports it's unclear why Steve Jobs has been dropped. Apparently Megan Ellison's Annapurna Pictures had withdrawn its financing.
Deadline notes that the project shouldn't lose any momentum despite the studio change.
