CBS Announces When Stephen Colbert Will Begin LATE SHOW Hosting Duties

David Letterman's time hosting Late Show ends in May, but Stephen Colbert won't following immediately as his replacement. CBS announced on Monday that Colbert's Late Show premiere date will be Sept. 8, over four months after Letterman steps down.

Things will be kind of crazy when it comes to CBS' late-night schedule for a few months. James Corden begins hosting The Late Late Show on March 9, but he won't have another late-night show serving as his lead-in for awhile. Media expert Bill Carter reported that CBS fill Letterman's space will reruns until Colbert's September premiere. The network will apparently relaunch Corden when Colbert debuts.

If Corden stumbles as a late-night host, it's going to be pretty easy to see why. He gets Letterman as a lead-in for a short time before having whatever reruns CBS decides to stick between the 11 o'clock news and his show after that. (Two and a Half Men? Big Bang Theory?) And after all that, Corden will get relaunched when Colbert arrives.
