Emma Watson to Star as Belle in Disney's Live-Action BEAUTY AND THE BEAST
As if facing Voldemort wasn't hard enough, Emma Watson will now challenge an entirely different kind of monster. The Harry Potter actress will star as Belle in Disney's live-action Beauty and the Beast. TheWrap broke the news on Monday, with Watson confirming the casting on her Facebook page later in the day.
This adaption of Beauty and the Beast will be helmed by The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn director Bill Condon and written by The Perks of Being a Wallflower writer/director Stephen Chbosky, who previously worked with Watson on that film.
Turning classic animated movies into live-action films is a kick that Disney is currently on after finding box office success with Johnny Depp in Alice in Wonderland and Angelina Jolie in Maleficent. The studio will tackle Cinderella this year, a movie that Watson actually passed on.
This will be Watson's biggest role since wrapping up the Harry Potter series. She had supporting roles in My Week With Marilyn, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Bling Ring and Noah, along with a buzzy cameo in This Is the End. The actress has also become a spokeswoman for women's right, speaking at the United Nations and Davos conference.
Beauty and the Beast doesn't have a release date yet nor do we know who will be playing the Beast opposite Watson's Belle.
