Andrew Garfield Not Expected to Remain SPIDER-MAN; Character Likely to Debut in CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR

While the news that Spider-Man will join the Marvel Cinematic Universe is cause for much nerd rejoicing, there's one downfall to this development: Andrew Garfield is likely out as Spider-Man.

Ever since the rumors began that Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures were working on a deal to bring Spider-Man into the MCU, people have been saying that Marvel would want a fresh start with the character — that would mean casting someone other than Garfield. The Hollywood Reporter echoed this idea after Marvel Studios made the announcement on Monday, writing that "Andrew Garfield is not expected to reprise the character."

Along with Emma Stone's take on Gwen Stacy, Garfield was the best part of the past two Amazing Spider-Man movies. This was someone who truly loved the character he was playing. Hopefully whoever Marvel and Sony pick to play the webslinger cares just as much about Spider-Man as Garfield.

When it comes to who that person will be, Logan Lerman is the name that has been coming up frequently. He was also a contender when Sony cast Garfield for The Amazing Spider-Man. If Marvel really wants to make a splash with the character (and add some much-needed diversity to its Cinematic Universe), I suggest we circle back to the push to have Donald Glover play Spider-Man. He already voices Miles Morales in the Ultimate Spider-Man: Web Warriors animated series. #DonaldForSpiderman, right?

THR also reports that Captain America: Civil War is the likely landing place for Spider-Man's first appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Spider-Man was the central character in the Civil War comic storyline — is there enough time to recalibrate a film that already includes Chris Evans' Captain America, Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man and the introduction of Chadwick Boseman's Black Panther to fit a new Spider-Man?

We shouldn't rule out Marvel giving us some kind of Spider-Man hint during an Avengers: Age of Ultron credits scene too. It's too late to put Spider-Man in the actual movie, but the studio has been known to turn those scenes around very quickly. The shawarma credits scene from The Avengers?
