Russo Brother Will Direct the AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR Movies

The Russo brothers have inherited the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The directorial duo behind Captain America: The Winter Solider and the upcoming Captain America: Civil War will helm the two-part Avengers: Infinity War.

Badass Digest reported in Novemeber that Anthony and Joe Russo were Marvel Studios' choices to follow Joss Whedon as directors of the Avengers franchise. The site confirmed the news on Monday, reporting that a source of theirs told them that the Russo brothers had closed their deals for the two Avengers: Infinity War movies. The Hollywood Reporter and Entertainment Weekly corroborated the news later in the day.

Just as Captain America: The Winter Solider set off events in the Marvel Cinematic Universe that will have big repercussions in Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: Civil War is going to have a huge impact on Avengers: Infinity War. It makes sense that the directors of Civil War will carry on in Infinity War.

There have also been rumors that the Russo brothers have been linked to the Spider-Man reboot, but they're not going to have much free time between Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War. Even without a Spider-Man movie, the Russo brothers will have directed more MCU movies than any other director. Jon Favreau directed the first two Iron Man movies and Whedon helmed the first two Avengers. The Russo brothers will have four under their belt after Infinity War wraps up.

Avengers: Infinity War — Part I will open on May 4, 2018, and Avengers: Infinity War — Part II will open on May 3, 2019.
