Is Daniel Craig Really Playing a Stormtrooper in STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS?

Last September, a rumor started going around that Daniel Craig had a secret role in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. According to a Metro report then, the James Bond star "begged" director JJ Abrams for a role in the upcoming Star Wars movie, with a source saying "fans might not even guess which part Craig is playing as his face won’t even be on screen."

So what could that role be?

The Independent reported on Friday that Simon Pegg, a huge Star Wars fan who may have a role in The Force Awakens himself, had let Craig's secret role slip.

"I wasn't a Stormtrooper. Daniel Craig, he was a Stormtrooper," Pegg said during a London movie premiere. "I shouldn't have said that."

Craig playing a Stormtrooper would perfectly fit with the rumor that the actor had a role that would keep fans guessing who he was playing. Craig wouldn't be buried under CGI — he'd be one of countless Stormtroopers masked by a white helmet.

Not so fast ...

Pegg looped back to this story later on Friday to clarify his early remarks. "Why is everyone leaping on this?" he asked in a statement to Collider. "It was a rumour last summer, wasn't it? I read it in the paper. It may be untrue, like most of the other rumours, like [Benedict Cumberbatch] and [Tom Cruise] being in it."

OK, so Daniel Craig may or may not be playing a Stormtrooper in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. If his Stormtrooper isn't going to take off his helmet at any time during the movie, does it really matter?
