'Brave' Kilt Commercial — Is Pixar in Trouble Again?

Pixar's Brave comes out in just over a month, and a new commercial focusing on kilts aired during this weekend's Saturday Night Live. This commercial is solely aimed at the boy segment of Pixar's audience, continuing the studio's effort to convince that audience that Brave isn't just some princess movie. I'm worried about this movie. It's been plagued by this kind of thing from the beginning. Pixar made a big deal about Brenda Chapman being the studio first female director, but then she was replaced due to creative disagreements. The film's name itself has been changed from The Bear and the Bow to Brave.

This commercial carries with it a distinct DreamWorks vibe ... which is a bad thing. Skirt jokes? Mooning? Pixar is one step away from Larry the Cable Guying another movie.

After Cars 2, Pixar needs a critical hit to get back on track. Toy Story 3 should've never been followed up with Cars 2. It's going to be even worse if Brave is a critical flop too.

  1. I already know the whole plot to Brave with the kiddie book already out and from what I've read, this is Pixar's ultimate home run.

I would respectfully disagree. I think the commercial is GENIUS! Pixar is aiming at PARENTS and saying this is family fun, not just a kids movie you will go and sleep through. The BEST part is they made it look just like a digital short produced by SNL. The hubs and I were watching this and it took the WHOLE commercial to realize it was an actual paid commercial! I think it goes to show Pixar knows what they are doing.

  3. Pixar got wonderful messages on every scene that they publish. It has great and deeper meanings aiming to connect through parents trust and sincerity. In that case, the parents would viably apply pixars lessons on their kids which would make them more famous.
