Florgon Borgon: SNL's Kate McKinnon and 'Helga Lately'
In addition to Eli Manning's strong hosting performance, yesterday's Saturday Night Live gave Kate McKinnon, the show's newest featured player, her first big chance to shine. The Helga Lately sketch, a Swedish version of Chelsea Lately, not only perfectly captured the essence of Chelsea Handler's show (I think? I dunno ... I've never actually watched Chelsea Lately), but also gave McKinnon, Taran Killam, Kristen Wiig, Keenan Thompson, Fred Armisen and Manning the chance to share their own ridiculous takes on the Swedish language.
McKinnon was previously a member of the Upright Citizens Brigade and has done voice work on several shows. She joined SNL at the beginning of April. If there was ever a time for a female cast member to start gaining some attention, McKinnon picked the right time. Wiig's possible departure after this season is going to leave some huge comedy shoes to fill.
