Hopefully You Like Sub-Pixar Quality Animated Movies Because DreamWorks Animation Has Big Plans

My love of Pixar isn't a secret. Nor is the fact that I've been disappointed with the studios latest offerings. The flip side of this coin is my dislike for just about everything that DreamWorks animation has released. The Shrek films, Shark Tale, pretty much all of it. While Pixar is known for making films that will stand the test of time and tell classic stories, DreamWorks excels at pumping out movies that are full of topical references and fart jokes. In 20 years, come back and watch both Finding Nemo and Shark Tale. Finding Nemo will still be perfect (and you'll probably cry), while Shark Tale is a movie based on the idea that Will Smith is voicing a fish. That's not going to make any sense in 20 years. I do have a fondness for DreamWorks' How to Train Your Dragon and Kung Fu Panda movies, but How to Train Your Dragon would only rank above Cars, Cars 2 and Brave when it comes to the Pixar canon.

While Pixar carefully crafts (at most) one film per year, DreamWorks animation announced plans to release 12 (!) new movies between now and June 2016. For comparison, Pixar has released 13 films in the studio's entire history. Hit the jump to check out the entire list of upcoming DreamWorks movies that I'm just sure will be of the highest caliber.

Here's what's in store for DreamWorks fans over the next few years: The Croods (March 22, 2013), Turbo (July 19, 2013), Mr. Peabody and Sherman (Nov. 1, 2013), Me and My Shadow (March 14, 2014), How to Train Your Dragon 2 (June 20, 2014), Happy Smekday! (Nov. 26, 2014), The Penguins of Madagascar (March 27, 2015), Trolls (June 5, 2015), B.O.O: Bureau of Otherwordly Operations (Nov. 6, 2015), Mumbai Musical (Dec. 19, 2015), Kung Fu Panda 3 (March 18, 2016) and How to Train Your Dragon 3 (June 18, 2016).

Some of these movies aren't even real titles — they're just random sounds with release dates. CROOD. SMEKDAY. There are sequels to sequels that don't even exist yet in that list. C'mon. Stop giving DreamWorks your money, people. We deserve better. Quit encouraging studios to release movies in this way. This isn't art — it's an assembly line.
