Master of Comedy? Chevy Chase Reprises His 'Christmas Vacation' Role for an Old Navy Commercial
In Chevy Chase's world, he's a master of comedy while the rest of us plebes don't understand the intricacies of his craft. Or, at least that's what we're supposed to believe based on Chase's week of pop culture stardom. After the actor quit Community while the show's fourth season was still shooting, an Old Navy commercial started running that features Chase reprising his Christmas Vacation role of Clark Griswold.
Look, I know that Christmas Vacation is a much-beloved holiday movie, but we need to call Chase out on this one. Appearing in an Old Navy commercial is a sign that your career is not going well. It's definitely not a sign that you're at the pinnacle of the comedy world. Ask Joey Lawrence or the Backstreet Boys. Even before Chase bailed on one of the all-time great TV comedies, he was actively working against it, fighting with Community creator and showrunner Dan Harmon while stating that he understood comedy better than Harmon ever would.
Well, Chevy Chase, if this is comedy, you can keep it for yourself.
