Superman Snags 'Entertainment Weekly' Cover; Zack Snyder Reveals There's No Kryptonite in 'Man of Steel'
For being the grandfather of all superheroes, Superman hasn't really accomplished much on the big screen. Yeah, the Christopher Reeves Superman movie was a groundbreaking film, but after that one, the franchise got pretty stale. Lex Luthor was reduced to being a villain only interested in acquiring land instead of being the genius who wanted to save humanity himself but saw Superman as an alien standing in his way. Bryan Singer's Superman Returns failed to add anything new to the series, just retreading ideas that had already been done.
This is why we should all be very excited about Zack Snyder's Man of Steel. Between Snyder and producer Christopher Nolan, Man of Steel looks like it's going to be a movie that finally does something new and different with Superman. Henry Cavill, Man of Steel's Superman, is featured on the cover of this week's Entertainment Weekly, along with the reveal that the movie plans on departing from previous Superman movies in at least one big way.

“I’ll be honest with you, there’s no Kryptonite in the movie,” says director Zack Snyder (300, Watchmen) Those glowing green space rocks – Superman’s only crippling weakness – have turned up so often as a plot point in movies, the only fresh option was not to use it. Anyway, if you want to make an audience relate to a character, a galactic allergy isn’t the way to do it.No Kryptonite. I'm completely on board with Snyder for this one. It's such a easy plot device, and Superman Returns never consistently explained the rules of Kryptonite to begin with. If Man of Steel is successful, maybe they can reimagine Kryptonite for a sequel.
