'The Avengers' Star Cobie Smulders Brings Maria Hill to ABC's 'Agents of SHIELD'

Clark Gregg won't be the only actor reprising his The Avengers role in Agents of SHIELD, Marvel's upcoming television show that expands its Cinematic Universe. Cobie Smulders will appear in at least the show's pilot episode, bringing SHIELD's Maria Hill to the same screen, according to Entertainment Weekly.
“I wanted very much to have Cobie in the pilot because as much as anyone else, she IS SHIELD,” says the pilot’s writer-director Joss Whedon in a statement to EW. “She’s cool and commanding, and has the dry humor that plays so well with Clark’s. Also, if she’s in it I get to hang out with Cobie.”
When you think about it, it's not really that surprising that Smulders will appear in another one of Joss Whedon's projects. The director has always thought highly of the actress, even having her in mind back when he was developing a Wonder Woman film for Warner Bros. (Yes, think about that for a second — Cobie Smulders as Wonder Woman. Let's see that movie.)

EW reports that Smulders role in Agents of SHIELD could expand beyond just one episode, with that possibility opening up after How I Met Your Mother, the show that made her famous, wraps up its ninth and final season.

Agents of SHIELD premieres on ABC on Sept. 24. Head past the jump to check out the full picture of Smulders as Agent Hill.
