After 67 Years, 'It's a Wonderful Life' Is FINALLY Getting a Sequel

If you've spent the past 67 years hoping for a sequel to It's a Wonderful Life, you're in luck. On Monday, Variety broke the news that Star Partners and Hummingbird Prods. are working on a sequel to the 1946 Christmas classic.

While Jimmy Stewart won't be back to play George Bailey, It's a Wonderful Life: The Rest of the Story will focus on Bailey's grandson, who Variety notes is also conveniently named George Bailey. The movie's plot will center on "an angel who shows Bailey’s unlikeable grandson how much better off the world would have been had he never been born." Karolyn Grimes, the actress who played Bailey's daughter, Zuzu, will play that angel. Variety's report says that we won't find out who's playing the new George Bailey until February.

The It's a Wonderful Life sequel team is targeting a 2015 holiday season release, which will put the movie right in Star War: Episode VII's neighborhood. I'm guessing there's going to be a fierce competition for talent between these two films. Hopefully Lucasfilm gives their sequel a better subtitle than "The Rest of the Story."
