Bryan Singer In Talks to Direct 'X-Men: Apocalypse'; Movie Will Explore 'Mutant Origins'

Huh, turns out earlier reports that Bryan Singer was already on board to direct X-Men: Apocalypse were premature. At the beginning of December, Vulture reported that Singer would direct the sequel to X-Men: Days of Future Past, but in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Singer made it clear that there wasn't a deal in place yet.

"I'm co-writing the story and I'm producing it," Singer told EW. "I'm negotiating to direct. We're in the process. We're trying to figure it out, schedules. My desire would be to direct it."

I don't care what else Singer potentially has on his plate — if Days of Future Past is the hit Fox believes it'll be, no one else but Singer should be directing these X-Men movies. Remember what happened last time he stepped away from the franchise and Fox picked someone else to direct? It rhymes with Rett Bratner.

Singer also shed a tiny bit of light on what Apocalypse would be about and how it would connect to Days of Future Past, telling EW, "It will also address historical mutant-cy, meaning the deep past, mutant origins and things like that. It's something that's always intrigued me when we think about our Gods and our history and miracles and powers."

X-Men: Apocalypse is scheduled to hit theaters on May 27, 2016.
