Baz Luhrmann In Talks to Direct Elvis Presley Biopic for Warner Bros.
If you've already turned the Great American Novel into a musical, making a movie about the King of Rock and Roll shouldn't be too hard. We'll see if that's true when Baz Luhrmann gets to work on an Elvis Presley biopic for Warner Bros.
According to TheWrap, the Great Gatsby director is in talks with Warner Bros. to helm a movie about Presley. The project is being written by Kelly Marcel, who was also the screenwriter behind Fifty Shades of Grey and Saving Mr. Banks.
TheWrap reports that "it's unclear which periods of Presley's life would be depicted in the film" but "Warner Bros. has secured rights to all musical components in Presley's catalog for this project."
I guess if the studio hadn't secured rights to Presley's music, Luhrmann could've just swapped those songs out for music by Jay Z and Lana Del Rey like he did with The Great Gatsby.
Is it too early to start speculating who will play Presley? I'm pulling for John Stamos.
