'Full House' Is Planning a Comeback (John Stamos Is Involved)

The milk man, the paper boy and evening TV might be things of the past, but Full House is plotting a comeback. TV Guide reported on Tuesday that Warner Bros. is working on bringing the classic 1980s/1990s series back in some way, with several original castmembers involved.

"Leading the charge is John Stamos (Uncle Jesse) — who has an ownership stake in the show, which gives him good reason to champion the new series," writes TV Guide. "Original executive producer Bob Boyett and creator Jeff Franklin (who's writing the new version) are actively involved. Candace Cameron Bure (D.J.), Jodie Sweetin (Stephanie) and Andrea Barber (Kimmy) are on board, while Bob Saget (Danny) and Dave Coulier (Joey) are also involved in some way."

Full House still does killer ratings on Nick at Nite, and with Boy Meets World proving that a 1990s TV series can find new life in the 2010s, Warner Bros. is on to something here. A version of the show that reunites most of Full House's original cast should be able to find an audience that, like Girl Meets World's, is a combination of the show's original fans and that generation's children.

I've always felt that a Full House spinoff focused on Stamos' Uncle Jesse and Lori Loughlin's Aunt Becky raising their teenage twins could do well. Jesse's dreams of being a rock star have passed and he's dealing with the stresses of parenthood and middle age. C'mon, it would at least be better than most of CBS's sitcoms. The show would obviously be called Have Mercy.
