HOUSE OF CARDS Star Kate Mara Tested for STAR WARS Spinoff Female Lead Too

There may be a bit of a sibling rivalry brewing when it comes to casting the first Star Wars spinoff. We learned last week that Rooney Mara is among a handful of actresses testing for the female lead in director Gareth Edwards' Star Wars standalone movie. One actress Rooney may be competing against for the role? Her sister, Kate Mara.

Variety's Justin Kroll reported that the former House of Cards star was the fourth actress to test for the female lead, joining Rooney, Tatiana Maslany and Felicity Jones. No official word yet from Lucasfilm on what Edwards' Star Wars film will be about or who the female lead character will be.

Kate Mara already has a potential franchise on her hands, playing Sue Storm in the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot. The success of that relaunch is far from certain, though, so the actress could find herself with the free time needed to join the Star Wars universe. On an interesting note, Fantastic Four is being directed by Josh Trank, who will also direct the second Star Wars standalone movie.
