Steven Spielberg to Direct READY PLAYER ONE Adaption
Steven Spielberg will once again direct a science-fiction film and he'll return to Warner Bros. to do so. Deadline broke the news on Wednesday that Spielberg will helm the cinematic adaption of Ready Player One, a science-fiction book by Ernest Cline that's heavy on 1980s pop culture references.
This will be Spielberg's first time directing a movie since War of the Worlds in 2005 and first time back at Warner Bros. since A.I. Artificial Intelligence in 2001.
"We are thrilled to welcome Steven back to Warner Bros," Warner Bros. President of Creative Development and Worldwide Production Greg Silverman said in a statement. "We had an historic series of collaborations in the 1980s and 1990s and have wanted to bring him back for years."
Spielberg joins Ready Player One after rumors that Christopher Nolan would direct the adaption were circulating back in December. Interestingly enough, Spielberg was originally attached to direct Interstellar, a film that Nolan wound up directing himself.
