TRAILER: Ben Affleck Lets Javier Bardem Do All the Talking in Terrence Malick's 'To the Wonder'

Terrence Malick is an interesting director. He can go years without making a film, and when he finally does release a film, it's usually shrouded in ambiguous secrecy. Take last year's Tree of Life for example. While it was a beautiful movie in terms of visuals (and that opening creation-of-life sequence), there isn't really a consensus in terms of what Malick was trying to say with Tree of Life. There was also some grumbling over whether or not it deserved its Oscar nomination for Best Picture. (Count me among those critics.)

It seems like Malick's next film is going to follow Tree of Life's path. To the Wonder is the story of a man who falls for a woman from his hometown following the collapse of his marriage to a European woman. The film stars Ben Affleck, Rachel McAdams, Olga Kurylenko and Javier Bardem. Malick shot footage with Jessica Chastain, Rachel Weisz, Amanda Peet, Barry Pepper and Michael Sheen, but none of their scenes made the final cut. Crazy, huh?

To the Wonder had originally been discussed as an Oscar contender for these upcoming Academy Awards, but the film now won't debut until April 2013. Check out the first trailer for To the Wonder after the jump. Even though Affleck has been promoted as the star of the film, the actor doesn't say a word in this trailer, leaving all the talking to Bardem.
