Eva Green (Not Angelina Jolie!) Cast as 'Sin City' Sequel's Dame to Kill For

For as long as a sequel to 2005's Sin City has been talked about, Angelina Jolie was the name that kept coming up to play Ava Lord, the "Dame" in Sin City: A Dame to Kill For. It took much longer to make A Dame to Kill For a reality than directors Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller had imagined though, and over that time, it became unclear whether or not Jolie's casting would come to fruition. On Tuesday, Dimension Films finally announced who would play Ava, and it's not Jolie. It's Casino Royale's Eva Green.

Green joins a large cast that includes the return of Jessica AlbaRosario Dawson, Bruce WillisJaime King and Mickey Rourke from the original movie and the addition of Josh Brolin, Jamie Chung and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

Two interesting notes: Gordon-Levitt is playing Johnny, a role that many believe was originally meant for Johnny Depp in the original vision for A Dame to Kill For's cast. Depp and Green starred together in Dark Shadows, a fact that I had almost completely forgotten due to the sheer awfulness of that movie. Second note: When the cast for Casino Royale was being pulled together, Jolie was actually one of the first actresses producers considered to play Vesper Lynd, the role that eventually went to Green. If Jolie's kids ever go missing, make sure you check Green's house first.

  1. Depp & Green were great together in Dark Shadows, which wasn't awful BTW. It was better than many other films this year that received better reviews. I would have liked to see Green & Depp cast together again in this. And either Rodriquez or Miller said a while back that this role WAS written specifically with Depp in mind.
