Joseph Gordon-Levitt Joins 'Sin City' Sequel, Passes on 'Godzilla' Reboot and 'Guardians of the Galaxy'

Wow, busy day in Joseph Gordon-Levitt news. Let's quickly run through the actor's day in the headlines. The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Gordon-Levitt had been in consideration for lead in director Gareth Edwards upcoming Godzilla reboot, but wound up passing on the role. Collider then reported that the actor had also passed on the lead role in Marvel's Guardians of Galaxy, signaling that Gordon-Levitt won't be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe anytime soon. (Oh, well. He could always be Ant-Man, right? No, that role belongs to Nathan Fillion and only Nathan Fillion.)

So why did Gordon-Levitt pass on the chance to be a Marvel superhero? A simple press release from Dimension Films gave us the answer to that question, announcing that the actor had joined Sin City: A Dame to Kill For to play a new character that co-directors Frank Miller and Robert Rodriguez created just for this sequel.
Gordon-Levitt will play “Johnny,” a cocky gambler who disguises a darker mission to destroy his most foul enemy at his best game. “Johnny is a new character in the Sin City world and we are excited for what Joseph will bring to the role,” said Rodriguez and Miller.
Gordon-Levitt is a great addition to a Sin City: A Dame to Kill For cast that also includes Mickey Rourke, Jessica Alba, Rosario Dawson, Jaime King, Dennis Haysbert, Jamie Chung and probably Clive Owen (and maybe Angelina Jolie). I loved the first Sin City film, but if I'm Gordon-Levitt I don't pass on the Marvel Cinematic Universe or a Godzilla film directed by Edwards. He's seen Monsters, right?
