'Portal' Fan Film Director Signs on to Helm 'Y: The Last Man' Adaption

Brian K. Vaughn's Y: The Last Man is one of the greatest graphic novel series I've ever read. Original, funny and thought-provoking, the books tell the story of a world where something has killed off every creature with a Y chromosome ... except Yorick Brown and his monkey, Ampersand. It's a great series, and if you haven't read it, I highly recommend it. Vaughn was also a writer on Lost, scripting several episodes in Seasons 4 and 5.

Studios have been trying to adapt Y: The Last Man ever since the series became a critical hit, with Disturbia's D. J. Caruso being attached to direct at one point. Shia LaBeouf was rumored to be Caruso's pick to star in the movie. There was also general disagreement in whether the source material deserved several movies (which it definitely does) or if it could be compacted into one move (which it definitely cannot).

After years of false starts, it looks like New Line has found a director for Y: The Last Man, with Dan Trachtenberg coming aboard, according to a Deadline report. Trachtenberg has yet to direct a feature film, but he became well known for his fan trailer for a fictional film adaption of the video game Portal. You can check that fan trailer out after the jump.

Y: The Last Man deserves to be faithfully adapted in a quality way. It shouldn't be crammed into a single film nor should someone like LaBeouf be its star. It's too good, and it's too unique for that kind of treatment.
