Steve Carell Swears He Won't Be Back for 'The Office' Finale (and Let's Chat About This Week's Episode)

OK, first off, did everyone catch this week's episode of The Office. WHOA. Amiright? If you haven't watched it yet, skip the next paragraph.

If you did see this week's episode, that was quite the ending, huh? We've known for a bit now that Greg Daniels and the rest of The Office writers planned on revealing the people behind the long-filming documentary, but I didn't expect them to reveal it like that. I don't like it when Jim and Pam fight. I don't like it one bit. They may have become boring in recent seasons, but Jim and Pam were (are?) the heart of The Office. I don't want to see them torn apart.  If you thought that Brian, the boom mic guy, looked familiar, you're right. He was played by Chris Diamontopoulos, an actor you've seen as Frank Sinatra in The Kennedys and Moe in The Three Stooges.

Let's regroup now. There's been a lot of talk about whether or not Steve Carell would return for The Office's finale, and while it seemed that former castmember Mindy Kaling had revealed that Carell had visited the set, everyone else has sworn that we won't see Carell on The Office again. While talking to Access Hollywood, Carell himself made it clear that his time on the long-running NBC sitcom was over.

“I just didn’t think it was right for the character, because that character had had an arch within the story and kind of grew and sort of evolved past the idea of the documentary.”

I'm pretty sure I've said this before, but I'll say it again. I'll believe that Carell isn't showing up for The Office series finale when the credits to The Office series finale roll and Carell never showed up. If I'm Daniels and the rest of The Office crew, a Carell cameo would be something I'd want to keep under wraps, even if it means lying to every single person who asks. That's OK. I can live with being lied to about this.
