Oscar Facts of the Day: Let's Keep Those Speeches Quick ... and Not Creepy

Let's be honest, everyone loves a good Oscar speech. They're rare and hard to come by, but every now and then, we hear a speech that’s as perfect as the Oscar itself. After the 2002 Oscars went an astounding four hours and twenty-three minutes long, the Academy established a time limit of 45-seconds before the orchestra's cued and winners are ushered off stage.

Some folks such as William Holden, Alfred Hitchcock and Joe Pesci never needed a time limit to begin with. In fact, Pesci only needed two seconds to deliver the very poignant, "It’s my privilege. Thank you." To this day, these three men still hold the record for shortest speech.

Julia Roberts, Adrien Brody and Greer Carson, however, all needed the orchestra prompt with speeches that lasted more than four minutes long. Carson's seven-minute speech still holds the record for the longest.

Creepiest speech goes to Angelina Jolie when she kissed and thanked her brother, saying, "I’m just so in love with my brother right now." Everyone is still a little weirded out by that ...

Oscar prediction: If Anne Hathaway wins for Best Supporting Actress, she will deliver a drawn-out speech.
