'Safety Not Guaranteed' Director Colin Trevorrow to Helm 'Jurassic Park IV'

When Universal Pictures announced that Jurassic Park IV was hitting theaters on June 13, 2014, the studio declined to name a director. Would Joe Johnston, the director of Jurassic Park III, return for this new sequel? Would Steven Spielberg reclaim the Jurassic Park director's chair? With the movie's release date just over a year away, some websites began speculating that the Spielberg scenario was secretly being enacted. Well, those rumors were put to an end on Thursday when Deadline reported that Safety Not Guaranteed director Colin Trevorrow would helm Jurassic Park IV.

Trevorrow is a bold and inspired choice to direct a surefire blockbuster like Jurassic Park IV. Safety Not Guaranteed was one of the best film's of 2012, and this is a huge career move for Trevorrow. I'm hoping that Trevorrow will help convince serious actors to join Jurassic Park IV, elevating the film above the usual popcorn flick. We're seeing this happen with the new Jurassic Park movie. Legendary Films brought Monsters director Gareth Edwards in, and now talented actors like Bryan Cranston and Elizabeth Olsen are in that movie. I'm sure Jurassic Park IV will bring back at least one of the franchise's favorites — Sam Neill or Jeff Goldblum — but the success of the film will depend on who they surround those favorites with.
