Scarlett Johansson, Reese Witherspoon, Amanda Seyfried and Jessica Chastain Are the Favorites to Play Hillary Clinton in 'Rodham'?
When news broke that the Black List script Rodham was moving toward becoming a reality, Popculturology offered five choices for who should play Hillary Clinton. Young Il Kim, the writer behind Rodham, even called this list "great choices." Our list was made up of Jennifer Lawrence, Rooney Mara, Emma Watson, Carey Mulligan and Emily Blunt, all actresses between the ages of 22 and 29, a pretty perfect range considering Rodham would focus on Clinton's life at the age of 26.
On Sunday, The Independent reported that director James Ponsoldt's short-list of actresses includes Scarlett Johansson, Reese Witherspoon, Amanda Seyfried and Jessica Chastain. This is a puzzling group of actresses, as they range in age from 27 to 37. Now, this is in no way an attack on older actresses. I just find it hard to believe that the 26-year-old Witherspoon would be believable as the college-age Clinton. I'm sure the producers of Rodham would love to get a big name, but just signing up an actress who's wrong for the role but just happens to have a big name isn't the right way to go. If finding an actress who actually fits the appropriate age isn't important, Rodham might as well sign up Meryl Streep.
