Like 'Watching Your Girlfriend Blow a Million People': Dan Harmon Blasts 'Community' Season 4 and Sony

Well, Dan Harmon finally got around to watching the latest season of Community, and he didn't quite like what he saw. During his Harmontown podcast, the newly reinstalled showrunner blasted Season 4, Sony and his replacements. From Deadline:

“It’s very much like an impression and an unflattering one,” he said. “It’s 13 episodes of ‘I’m Dan Harmon!’ I’m going back to work tomorrow morning and I’m just like, do I talk like that?” Harmon, who is heading back for Season 5 with writer Chris McKenna, compared catching up on the Guarascio and Port-led fourth season to “flipping through Instagram watching your girlfriend blow a million [people].”

Yikes. For awhile, it seemed like Harmon was going to take the high road and hold his tongue when it came to Community's pretender season. Clearly not the case after this rant. As someone who wasn't a huge fan of Season 4, I don't mind seeing Harmon rip into it, but I hope he's careful. I would hate to see Harmon get fired (again) before he can save Community with Season 5.

Harmon also revealed that he is trying to get Bill Murray to appear in Community, after originally hoping that Murray would play William Winger, Jeff Winger's father.

“I always wanted Jeff’s father to be Bill Murray,” he said. “I named him Jeff Winger after Bill Murray’s character in Stripes. There’s something awesome about being held down and watching your family get raped on a beach. It’s liberating.”

Thanks, David Guarascio and Moses Port, for blowing the world's chance to see Murray play Joel McHale's father. Community isn't the only show that sees Murray as it's Holy Grail — Parks and Recreation has long desired to bring the actor on to play Pawnee's unseen mayor. Hopefully Harmon can pull this one off and give Community a guest star that blows away anyone Season 4 managed to bring in.
