TRAILER: Will Naomi Watts Win an Oscar for Portraying Princess Diana in 'Diana'?

The death of Princess Diana is one of the first big breaking news events that I remember. I would have been 10 when she died in 1996, and even though it happened during summer vacation, I still had to ask my parents if I could stay up to see what would happen with the story. Of course, this was in the days before the Internet and Twitter, so we had to rely on TV news to give us updates. Things would be very, very different in the Twitter Age.

This fall, we're going to get to watch the entire life of Princess Diana play out again, only this time, it'll be on the big screen with Naomi Watts portraying the princess. The first trailer for Diana hit the Internet on Wednesday, and this film looks like it's swinging for the Oscar fences. When you tackle a figure as iconic as Princess Diana, that's really the only way to go, huh?

In addition to Watts, Diana stars Lost's Naveen Andrews as Hasnat Khan and Cas Anvar as Dodi Fayed. The film is scheduled to debut in America on Sept. 5, 2013. Head past the jump to check out the first trailer for Diana.
