Tom Cruise's 'Jack Reacher' Is Getting a Sequel Based on Lee Child Book 'Never Go Back'

Tom Cruise's Jack Reacher didn't set any box office records when it hit theaters last winter, but the cinematic adaptation of Lee Child's popular books did go on to gross $218.3 million worldwide, more than tripling Paramount $60 million budget for the movie.

Deadline reported on Monday that Paramount is now setting the wheels in motion for a Jack Reacher sequel with plans to adapt Child's Never Look Back into the next movie in the franchise.

According to Deadline, the studio is still looking for a screenwriter, but hopes that Christopher McQuarrie, who directed Jack Reacher, will return for the sequel. McQuarrie is currently working on Mission: Impossible 5, which he will direct. Mission: Impossible 5 has been slotted for a Christmas 2015 release, which makes it likely that a Jack Reacher sequel will come after that.
