Quentin Tarantino Cancels 'The Hateful Eight' After Script Leaks
It looks like The Hateful Eight won't be Quentin Tarantino's next film. The director told Deadline on Monday that the film's script had leaked out through one of the six people who he had given a copy of it to.
"I'm very, very depressed," Tarantino told Deadline. "I finished a script, a first draft, and I didn't mean to shoot it until next winter, a year from now. I gave it to six people, and apparently it's gotten out today."
From what Tarantino said to Deadline, it sounds like the script was only passed around by agents who started contacting the director to pitch their clients for roles in The Hateful Eight. This wasn't the kind of leak where a script winds up on the Internet. It was reported earlier in January that The Hateful Eight would be Tarantino's next project, possibly beginning shooting this summer. With the film now shelved, what will Tarantino's do next? It seems unusual for a director to completely scrap a project at this stage, especially when it didn't get leaked to the public.
