Jared Leto in Talks to Replace Will Smith in 'Brilliance'

Jared Leto isn't just an Oscar winner — he's apparently good enough to replace Will Smith. According to The Hollywood Report, the Dallas Buyers Club Oscar winner is in early talks for the lead in Brilliance, a film about "a federal agent with great hunting gifts who is drafted to hunt down a terrorist."

Back in February, Smith was in talks for this role, which looked like a good move on his part. Smith has wrecked his career with poor movie choices and an insistence on making his children movie stars too. Now Brilliance could be Leto's next film, continuing the Thirty Seconds to Mars frontman's return to cinema.

Brilliance will be directed by Julius Onah, who'll make his directorial debut with God Particle, from a script by David Koepp based on a novel by Marcus Sakey. THR writes that "Sakey's book takes place in a world where a rare set of people are born with extraordinary abilities and are called 'brilliants.'" Noomi Rapace is already on board for the film.

Thirty Seconds to Mars is on a global tour through November. If Leto is cast in Brilliance, filming will likely have to wait until the band's tour is up.
