'This Man May Kill Me': Ben Affleck Stars in 'Gone Girl' Second Trailer
Gone Girl comes at an interesting time for both Fincher and Ben Affleck, who plays Nick Dunne, a man suspected of murdering his wife. Fincher is coming off of back-to-back Oscar contenders, with The Social Network competing in just about every major category in 2010 and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo scoring an Oscar nomination for Rooney Mara. The director hasn't lined up his next project yet, recently passing on the Steve Jobs biopic written by Aaron Sorkin.
For Affleck, Gone Girl is a midpoint between Argo, the movie that made the actor/director an Academy hero, and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, the movie that returns Affleck to the world of superheroes (and takes him away from the director's chair for a considerable amount of time).
From watching this new Gone Girl trailer, it definitely looks like Fincher has put together a potential Oscar contender, continuing the style that's proven successful for him over the past few years.
In addition to Affleck, Gone Girl stars Rosamund Pike, Neil Patrick Harris, Tyler Perry, Emily Ratajkowski and Casey Wilson. The movie opens on Oct. 3.
